چکیده

In this paper we describe a numerical method to solve numerically the weakly dispersive fully nonlinear Serre–Green–Naghdi (SGN) celebrated model. Namely, our scheme is based on reliable finite volume methods, proven to be very efficient for the hyperbolic part of equations. The particularity of our study is that we develop an adaptive numerical model using moving grids. Moreover, we use a special form of the SGN equations where non-hydrostatic part of pressure is found by solving a nonlinear elliptic equation. Moreover, this form of governing equations allows to determine the natural form of boundary conditions to obtain a well-posed (numerical) problem.

Space-time Least-squares Finite-element Method for Shallow-water Equations

In this paper, a space-time least-squares finite-element method for the 2D nonlinear shallow-water equations (SWE) is developed. The method can easily handle complex geometry, bed slope (source term), and radiation boundary condition without any special treatment. Other advantages of the method include: high order approximations in space and time can easily be employed, no upwind scheme is need...

A discontinuous Galerkin method for a new class of Green-Naghdi equations on simplicial unstructured meshes

In this paper, we introduce a discontinuous Finite Element formulation on simplicial unstructured meshes for the study of free surface flows based on the fully nonlinear and weakly dispersive GreenNaghdi equations. Working with a new class of asymptotically equivalent equations, which have a simplified analytical structure, we consider a decoupling strategy: we approximate the solutions of the ...

High order well-balanced CDG-FE methods for shallow water waves by a Green-Naghdi model

In this paper, we consider a one-dimensional fully nonlinear weakly dispersive Green-Naghdi model for shallow water waves over variable bottom topographies. Such model describes a large spectrum of shallow water waves, and it is thus of great importance to design accurate and robust numerical methods for solving it. The governing equations contain mixed spatial and temporal derivatives of the u...

Discontinuous Galerkin Spectral/hp Element Modelling of Dispersive Shallow Water Systems

Two-dimensional shallow water systems are frequently used in engineering practice to model environmental flows. The benefit of these systems are that, by integration over the water depth, a two-dimensional system is obtained which approximates the full three-dimensional problem. Nevertheless, for most applications the need to propagate waves over many wavelengths means that the numerical soluti...

On the Galerkin/Finite-Element Method for the Serre Equations

A highly accurate numerical scheme is presented for the Serre system of partial differential equations, which models the propagation of dispersive shallow water waves in the fully-nonlinear regime. The fully-discrete scheme utilizes the Galerkin / finiteelement method based on smooth periodic splines in space, and an explicit fourth-order Runge-Kutta method in time. Computations compared with e...
